Why Weight Loss Challenges Work

Does the summer swim suit season have you quaking in your sandals? Well, we’re sure you’re not alone and we have the answer, Weight Loss Challenges! In fact almost all of our Weight Loss Challenge participants lost weight during the holidays and we had 4 challenges running with over 80 participants. Our challengers tell us the number one reason for their success is that the challenges offer accountability. Support is also a key factor. Our wellness coaches call each participant every week to check on their progress, their hunger and energy throughout the day. If there is an issue we help them correct it; if there is a question we answer it. We’ve been told the participants look forward to our calls even if there isn’t an issue, they know we are watching and we care. Some have said that without the personal coaching they would have quit. Sometimes people just need that little extra nudge.
When a challenge starts the entry fee is put into a pot and at the end of the challenge is split amongst the top three biggest losers. At the challenge we weigh in every week.

There is a small penalty of a dollar per pound

 if a participant gains during that time period; there is also a fee if you miss a week. These fees are put into a separate pot for our biggest inch loss loser. At the end of the challenge we have a party to celebrate the class’s accomplishments and hand out the prizes. Diplomas are received along with before and after pictures, we all have a great time.
 
In addition to weigh-ins each class covers a weight loss topic ranging anywhere from reading labels at the supermarket, the importance of protein, carbohydrates, fats, sugar, how to eat out and much more. The classes are fun and interactive lasting about a ½ hour to 45 minutes. We find the participants to be very supportive of each other even in the heat of competition.
 
Accountability is King which is why many participants roll over into the next challenge. These are our alumni and are here for 2 reasons 1) they did not lose all their desired weight in the last challenge and 2) they want the accountability.
